The technology landscape is evolving at a faster rate. Just the other week, Microsoft announced an end of Skype in the near future. This week, your favorite google assistant is replaced by Gemini. Google assistant is a speech recognition service provided by Google on mobile phones and tablets. The service helps users to make calls, finding directions and setting reminders among others.
Gemini, on the other hand, is a Google AI agent that is capable of analyzing text, images, video and audio. The ai agent has evolved over the past two years and can help summarize text, generate images and perform mathematical computations. Gemini replaced google Bard, the first ai agent developed by Google to compete the dominant openai's chatGPT. Currently, Google is rolling out Gemini to replace google assistant as the primary AI assistant on android devices. The move is indented to make use of the AI features to give users a more natural and interactive experience. The tasks previously performed by google assistance will now be handled by Gemini. For example, making calls, controlling smart home devices and even navigate a map.
Despite the move, Google gives you an option to revert back to google assistant if you don't like Gemini. One thing to note is that google Gemini is meant to be more personal, rather than google assistant whose goal leans towards communal use. For instance, Gemini is found on personal devices like phones. Google assistant can be found on shared devices like smart home devices.
